Brief History of Ikom Local Government Area
Ikom is a Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Ikom in the east of the area on the Cross River and the A4 highway at5°57′40″N 8°42′39″E.
It has an area of 1,961 km² and a population of 162,383 at the 2006 census.
The people of Ikom are majorly farmers. Ikom is a major producer of Banana and Plantain for the Nigerian market.
Ikom is known for the Ikom monoliths, artifacts that bear an ancient writing sometimes taken to be an early form of nsibidi.[1]

This is Ikom, Central Cross River State. 60% of the women ride bikes, even women in their sixties. 50% of the population are strangers and it is one of the cheapest commercial city to live in Nigeria.
It is 4 hours from Calabar, 1 hour 45 minutes to Obudu, 20 minutes to the Cameroonian border and to Ogoja is just 45 minutes away.
Crops like plantain, banana, cocoa, are in great abundance here. There is much food here due to its closeness to Benue State, The Food Basket of the Nation.
To get to Ikom from Calabar, you’ll have pass through Odukpani, Akampka (the richest and largest local government in the state, and it also borders Cameroun), Biase, Yakurr, Obubra, then Ikom
You have no problem with communication as the people here are friendly and can speak good English. The crime rate is very low, that you can walk around safely, even by 1:00 am.
